PARTICIPATE. CREATE. COLLABORATE.
Welcome to DENT!
Making a 'DENT' in the Waste Stream...One Art Project at a Time!
DENT is a unique nonprofit located in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Part Reuse Center. Part Art Laboratory. We have a mission of serving everyone interested in reusing materials creatively rather than sending it to the landfill: artists (everyone is an artist in our book), students, teachers, concerned citizens, the terminally curious, makers, and creators of all walks of life throughout the Piedmont.
DENT functions as a VERB, a place of action. We believe seriously in SERIOUS FUN. We actively COLLABORATE with other entities and individuals to encourage CREATIVE activities throughout the region.
4.34 lbs of Garbage
Here in NC, we produce approximately 7.8 million tons of waste each year that ends up in landfills. Even with active recycling programs in place, our state is one of the top exporters of waste to other nearby states. Although 49% of our waste was diverted from the dump in 2016, there is room for other actions to occur.
For the 2018 Bruges Triennial (Belgium), StudioKCA worked with the Hawaii Wildlife Fund and the Surfrider Foundation to collect 5 tons of floating plastic (along with hundreds of helpers) to create Skyscraper (the Bruges Whale)...pointing to the estimated 1.5 million tons of plastic floating in the earth's waters...a great example of environmental activism and art. CREATIVE REUSE WITH A PURPOSE!
At DENT, we think a CREATIVE APPROACH to diverting waste encourages people young and old to become more involved in their community and leads to a healthy environment.
Once we hit our fundraising goals, DENT will serve the Community as a brick and mortar space where donations of use-able materials and interesting 'stuff' can be made by individuals (like you) and businesses (like yours) then resold at big discounts. It will be a fun place to hang out and learn a truckload of creative skills to boot!
So please help us realize our vision and be a part of something wonderful! You'll be helping the environment and be the envy of your neighbors at the same time. Now, you can't beat that, can you?
